LATEST TRAINING UPDATES
So I went a bit nuts today. I decided to try it all. Started with a 20k cycle from Bray to Cabinteely and back. Took a break before running 5k circuit locally at a fairly swift pace. Then swam 450m down in bray. Was the only person in the whole beach. Had two lifeguards on hand just in case. All in all a successful days training
Did some hill running exercises with Michelle. We’re running the DLR 10K the week after the KOG so training with her for that too!!! Class with Alex in the evening. Still loving the classes. Lots of variety and stuff I’d never do on my own.
Nice and easy 7K recovery run.
Fast 5K run and class with Alex. Lots of core and stability work which I need as I’ve done absolutely no core work since…….. ever.
Quick 10K on the bike with some hills around Enniskerry and then another fast 10K running the same route. Feeling good.
Rest day while I work.
Swimming with Dee, Finn and Nicky down in the cove in Greystones. Cold morning starting but warmed up after a few meters in the water. Swim was hard but doable. Roll on week 4.
Only 2 weeks to go.
Decided to try the bike with a run. Put in 20k with lots of hills cycling from Bray through Enniskerry and Kilternan. Only decided half way round that I was going to run at the end so I called Michelle and had her waiting in the garden to take the bike and helmet. Funny experience running after a cycle. Your legs seem detached from your body for the first 2-300 meters. Got it done. Happy.
Down to Bray beach for a swim. Tide was out and no waves. Nice swim. Found it hard to judge the distance along the shore but reckon I got about 400 meters in.
Class with Alex working the lower body and legs was tough but enjoyable.
Swam in shoreline pool. 10×100 meters. Worked on my breathing. Tired at the end but feeling good.
Ran a fast 10K by my standards. I’ve neglected my running with the triathlon trying so was chomping at the bit to get out for a fast one. All you runners will know what this feels like. Loved it.
Evening class with Alex. Upper body and arms. Really loved this class. Energetic, fast paced and challenging. Brilliant.
Back to shoreline for another swim. Increased my distance to 150 meters x 8 sets. (New programme from Alex thank you very much.) Got stuck behind a slower swimmer which worked out quite well as I learned to control my breathing better than I would’ve going at my own pace. Thank you mysterious slow lady in the wrong lane.
Sea swim and drills with #KOG10. Great swim. Beautiful clear water. Got to see some fish – Getting a lot more confident in the water.
Monday. First day of training. Kicked off with an easy 6k. I run most days so thought this was as good a place to start.
Tuesday. Went for my first swim in about 3 years. I usually bob around the water with the kids so this was my first real swim. Managed 400 meters and was delighted with that. Evening class with Alex and some of the KOG10. Really enjoyed it.
Wednesday. Rest day.
Thursday. More structured swimming. Going with the programme given to me by Alex I swam 10 sets of 100 meters. 1km in total. Taking the breaks between really makes a difference and much more achievable. KOG class with Alex again. Loving the classes.
Friday. Rest day.
Saturday. Swimming in the sea.
Sunday. Cycle for 20k.
Overall really embracing the challenge and enjoying the new exercises I wouldn’t have done without being pushed. Successful week one. Roll on week 2.
