LATEST TRAINING UPDATES
This past week has been a little hectic on the training front, mostly through my own fault! I had signed up to do the Docklands 5k, which I do every year as it’s a really nice, friendly event organised by a great bunch of people! I also independently of this signed up to do the Belpark Duathlon in the Phoenix Park. At the start of this week, I realised that they were actually both on this week on consecutive evenings…oops! Zzz…
So this week had my first sea swim at the weekend with the KOG10 group which was a bit of a reality check as I wasn’t encountering waves in my lovely calm pool that I practice in!
After that, I really kicked the training up a notch. Monday was cycling in and out to work (25km round trip) with a lunchtime run in the Phoenix Park. Tuesday was a cycle in then an after work swim. Wednesday evening was the Belpark Duathlon which introduces you to hills that you didn’t know existed! So that left me pretty shattered for the Docklands 5k on Thursday evening but I got round and sure you’re only racing against yourself and all that. Friday was a rest day before I psyche myself up for another sea swim on Saturday morning!
3 weeks to go…getting very real now!
Starting on Monday, I did a quick strength session in the gym before work.
I’ve decided to get some swimming lessons as that’s 100% my weak point. I’ve done a good few duathlons as well as adventure races where the water element is kayak but the thought of actually getting into the water leaves me feeling cold! So on Tuesday I had my first swimming lesson. I can swim enough not to drown but nothing much more so lots of help needed!
Wednesday was a run in the Phoenix Park which is close to my office and probably one of the most beautiful places in Dublin to run!
Thursday…time for another swim session. On my own this time as I tried to put into practice the suggestions from my lesson earlier in the week.
Finished off the work week on Friday evening with a 40km cycle in fairly miserable weather as I dreamed of Friday night wine with jealousy!
Bring on our group sea swim in Greystones on Saturday morning!
